Custom Wheels - Rear Rims - 700c/29 Inch - by Velocity

I upgraded to these on my electric bicycle and think the bike should have come with these in the first place. Mine were very well protected and packed so they were perfect when I received them (no damage whatsoever). I laced the rim onto the existing spokes and the inside diameter is a just a little smaller than my old rim, but everything worked out great with the spokes coming up just flush with the nipple (perfect!). Be careful not to drop any nipples into the void. If you do, you'll need to use gravity to get the nipple close to the valve hole, then very slowly lift the rim up until the nipple rolls into view at the valve hole (this took me a while to figure out). Once laced up, the wheel was very easy to true, and my Michelins seated perfectly. Note: Pay attention to how you want the labels to look while lacing on the rims. The labels were not oriented identically on both rims and in hindsight I would have liked "Velocity" visible on the front and "Blunt" visible on the rear, with the 35mm label the same orientation on both front and rear.

Pros: Very true. I'm very pleased. The width is exactly what I was looking for.

Cons: Label orientation. Be careful when lacing that nipples don't fall inside the rim.

Great Rim

I bought the Velocity Duallis for my fatbike bike so I thought I would give the Blunt 35mm a try for my 29er. I don't run suspension on my 29r and was getting lots of pinch flats so I thought I would go with a 35mm for a wider footprint I also ride sandy trails so this helped also. And surprising the wheel was lighter then the wheel I had on. The bike is also my bikepacking bike. I run a 2.4 tire on the rim and fits great on my Giant xtc 29er

Pros: Strong wider footprint and pretty light for a wider rim. Reduces pinch flats . Great for bikepacking.

Cons: Yeah maybe heavier then a 23mm wide rim but not the one I had on my bike.

velocity dually wide rims

This rim built up nicely, trued easily, rides great with a lot of tire volume - this added quite a bit of tire contact patch to my wheels.

Awsome Rims

Bought a set of these rims ten years ago with shimano 105 hubs and butted spokes. About 8 years ago hit a pot hole and dented the rim. Took it to a mechanic who pounded it out and ground the sidewalls flat again. They Lasted 8 more years with no issues on a regular commute schedule. Couple of days ago I hit another pot hole. This time I damaged the rims beyond repair, but the rim didn’t fold, held together until I could stop safely and I didn’t crash. It was a miracle. This rim is awesome. I highly recommend it.

Pros: Strong & Durable, excellent commuter rim.

Cons: None that I can think of.

Very durable

Had a head-on crash with one of these and the wheel held true. Took several years of riding with my 26lbs touring bike rolling on 25c's jumping curbs and bunny hops to finally get the rear wheelset to need a tweak. Finish is solid (doesn't chip) and holds up under years of all weather riding. Only run with disc brakes, so can't say how well they would brake with rim setup.

Overall, very happy with these wheels.

Pros: very tough

Cons: a touch heavy, but to be expected anytime you go with aero rims

Velocity Dyad rim

These are some pretty durable rims. I put together a year round commuter for use in Canada. After a handful of pinch flats, from running low pressure with studded tires, the rims are still straight, true, and have no dents. Found them to get oxidation ( from road salt ) around nipples. A little electrical anti-oxidant fixed the problem! I might purchase wider rims next time, not a fault of the rims though!

Pros: Price, tough, true. Like the black colour too.

Cons: Yellow decal is UGLY! Comes off fairly easily though, and mineral spirits removes glue residue nicely.

Fantastic

Used this rim on a fixed gear cross bike. It's held up for the last two years through rain, sand, mud, and even a little snow. Was the perfect choice for this set up.

Retro bike rebuild option

Laced onto Alfine 8 back and VeloOrange Grand Cru front hub for a 1953 steel rebuild. Ideal combination, good price, weight and appearance as built up by Universal Cycles Wheel Builders.
The entire package worked out at an excellent cost for the quality. This rim has a nice width, which will be ideal for a range of tires from 18 up to 32mm+, and give a good shape to the tire for good rolling/cornering.
The rim itself is well made, with a nice appearance if stickers are removed, very clean appearance with good features and workmanship to boot.

Pros: Ideal dimensions for non-competitive riding, cost and weight good, clean rim has a clean appearance once stripped of stickers.
